I am proud to introduce our school to you and invite you to browse our website where you will learn about the special qualities of our school and the outstanding all-round education we offer.
Abbey Community College was established in 2000, following the amalgamation of the Sacred Heart of Mary Secondary School (SHM) and Slieverue Vocational School. Under the direction of Kilkenny Carlow Education and Training Board (KCETB) and in partnership with the RSHM sisters, we continue to reflect the values and ethos of both founding partners on our new and flourishing campus.
Since 2000, we have seen our college expand significantly and we now enjoy an ultra-modern campus with state of the art facilities. All our classrooms, technical rooms and laboratories have the most up to date equipment and IT facilities and our three student canteens reflect our commitment to caring for students’ needs as they progress through the school.
Teaching and Learning is at the centre of our work here. Our dedicated teaching staff strive for excellence and are continually engaged in professional development to ensure that student engagement is effective. We are proud of our ongoing academic success as we plan for the future.
Our vibrant college offers every student the opportunity to shine, not just in academic performance, but in a vast array of co-curricular activities. I urge you to get involved in college life in whatever interests you: sport, music, the arts, technology, performance, volunteering. The opportunities are limitless.
Above all, we work to ensure a happy school, where students are well-served in a positive and nurturing environment. I look forward to welcoming you to our school and, in partnership with your parents, we will work Together towards Excellence.
