Music and Choral singing play a very important part in Abbey Community College and contribute to the social, wellbeing and spiritual development of each student. Students participate in a great variety of performances during the school year within the school itself. The choir’s opening performance is usually the opening year mass which celebrates our diverse and culture rich school. Other school events include various lunch time recitals to promote student confidence and performance skills, the Christmas Carol service and the end of year Award Ceremony. The Abbey choir also perform in events outside of the school. In November 2017, the choir were asked to perform at the opening of Winterval in Waterford. A fantastic rendition of “Purple Rain” was performed by Conor Stacey, Brian O Mara, Leo Walsh, Peter Leahy and Maciej Kaczmarski, accompanied by the Abbey Community Choir. Our students studying music therapy put on a beautiful performance in the Hub in December. In April 2018, our students performed for the Anniversary mass that took place for the 150th anniversary of the Little Sisters of the Poor's arrival in Waterford City. Students joined forces with Good Counsel Junior School and a display of various choral pieces were presented. Glee Club has now been introduced and takes place Mondays after school.
